A weekend's worth
May. 2nd, 2006 04:06 pmI take back my doubts about Little Venice; at least, it isn't at all like Venice, but it is lovely. Oodles of narrowboats, lights shining off water, *very* expensive houses. Pretty. They seemed to be setting up for a market on the Saturday. May go up sometime and look to see if that's on every week.
I went up there to the Canal Cafe theatre, above the Bridge House pub, to see ( NewsRevue. )
On Saturday I did some errands in town (swapping a DVD that wasn't playing: I got them to try the replacement one in the shop, and it was fine there, but won't play on my machine, in exactly the same way as the previous one. All the others I've tried in my player are fine. Oddness.) and went to ( Soho-Ho )
Sunday, I went to see Dara O'Briain. Had a seat right in the gods, but it was well worth going. I think he's recording a DVD of this tour, which I'll have to get, but it'll be substantially different because there's quite a lot of audience chat and improvising- all of it really funny. Of the three evenings, this was definitely the one where I laughed the most.
So a very going-out weekend. After that, I did nothing on Bank Hol Monday- should probably have gone and supported the marches, but was apathetic and ate lots of broccoli in front of the telly. (Broccolli? It looks wrong every way I spell it now.)
Diana Wynne Jones fans not on the mailing list might like to see this- DWJ mentions how Howl got to Ingary in the first place.
Also on the DWJ list, a comment made me think of Vince's "I'll marry everyone's daughter!" moment (from the radio "Tundra".) I don't think Howl and Vince are that alike, really, apart from the vanity (though Vince is sneakier than he appears), but once an image is in your head it's hard to shake. I think when Howl's wearing the giant blue and silver suit he also has a cowboy hat on. (When Sophie cleans the bathroom? That whole section could totally be a Howard/Vince fight, with Naboo's magical hair products. More crossover plot bunnies- thank goodness I don't write fic. Would also love to see Letty being brisk with Howard.)
