Thursday evening, I went to see Jerry Springer The Opera in the glittering surroundings of Croydon. The tour hasn't quite finished: the show will be in Brighton until the end of the week. There were a bunch of bored-looking protesters outside- I should have picked up a leaflet as a souvenir really. (JSTO, if you managed not to hear about it, won lots of awards in the West End and was widely hailed as the Future Of The Musical, and then got screened late at night on BBC2 and suddenly ran into the biggest shitstorm imaginable, cast and creators got death threats and so on, because the second act is a coma-dream of Jerry's where he tries to mediate between Heaven and Hell and can be perceived as blasphemous if you have a mind to do so.) I enjoyed it. Great music. There's a lot of swearing, so have a fucking cut. ) There's a DVD out. It is good.

Went to the Peak District for the weekend. It was exceedingly hot. [personal profile] sigmonster has a few photos here. Impressions: Pub chat about the structural deficiencies of gingerbread houses, gossip (sadly little scandal at the moment, although lots of politics), full English breakfasts, chickening out of the underground boat ride through an old mine, scrambling up Cave Dale, lounging in the lounge, commiserating with those who had watched England lose, lack of sleep, mocking Doctor Who (the [spoilers} and then the [spoilers] turn up as well? Pfft), a bonfire built with great skill, Jack Daniels mixed with Pimms (Don't Do This. It is almost as nasty as JD with lime cordial. There were reasons for trying these, but they no longer seem to be very sensible), fire-eating with marshmallows, a good meaty sermon to disagree with on Sunday, a residue of aching calves and insect bites. Smashing.
