Oct. 17th, 2006 03:07 pmBoring post, largely to kill time until the drilling stops and I can listen to last night's 99p Challenge (query, is "intermittent" worse than "continuous" because you don't have the chance to stop noticing the noise?) Did things at the weekend- birthday-present shopping (aargh, shops are evil); ate roast beef and watched Fry and Laurie in Guildford; Big Night Out comedy club on Saturday evening (Hal Cruttenden was good, but it was a bit... MOR).
The Secret Policeman's Ball, which would have been a much better thing to go to on Saturday really, will apparently be shown on Channel 4 on the 31st.
Rereading Lirael- Nix's worldbuilding is great- I'd love to just read e.g. about the Library, or the training of a Charter mage, without all the distractions of a plot full of evil necromancers. (But then I'm not a very plot-driven reader.) Lots of bits of description of small things that paint a really vivid picture, like the Dog being pulled out of a pocket.
Would like to see some of Ellimere without the little-brother POV filter in place over her actions...
Also reading The Secret Life of Dust, which is very interesting, and The Cassini Division. It's interesting to reread this one; the protagonist's later actions colour a lot of her earlier words.
