An interesting morning
Apr. 20th, 2007 10:45 amEverything smells bad today. It's a heavy, grey, damp day, so smells cling soggily, and as the spring flowers aren't scented what you're left with is the bins that need emptying, the muck-spreader that drove down the station road earlier, the illicit fag someone had twenty minutes ago on the train, and an inexplicable reek of silage right through the town centre. The wind that slices down the hill on the way to work wasn't carrying anything worse than exhaust fumes, but it was still a relief to get indoors to the anodyne smells of photocopiers and carpet.
The scene outside work was unusual; yellow tape winding through the trees, people in white overalls, and bodies lying everywhere, with everyone outside the tapes walking past in complete unconcern.
(It was a training exercise, obviously. Forensic and chemical, the sign said- maybe the silage smell was one of the things they practise airborne tracking on?)
