Jul. 9th, 2008 01:38 pmThis week, I are been mostly baffled by not being able to connect my signal booster to my video. [*] (I know, OK? I'll be getting a hard drive recorder when I can afford one- this year, next year, sometime, never- and meanwhile I would quite like to record some things that don't seem to get released on DVD. It's odd; the Beeb do CDs of the News Quiz and the Now Show, but the only DVDs of HIGNFY and MtW are compilations- shirley the viewing figures would suggest a market for a series-at-a-time release?)
Anyway. The signal booster's output is a female coax end, and so is the ariel input on the video. You *can* get double-male-ended cables, but a tenner to connect up a video that only cost about £15, when I already have two ordinary male-to-female cables kicking about, seems ridiculous- all I need is a little male-to-male connector for one end, which should cost about 50p. Does anywhere sell these? They do not. You can get more female-to-female ones than you can shake a stick at, but apparently nobody but me has ever had this set-up issue... So I've been unplugging the ariel from the booster and plugging it directly into the video, muttering curses each time.
(The ariel can't live permanently in the video, because of the freeview box needing the signal booster to get practically any channels at all. In case you wondered. There are still three or four that only appear when it's cloudy.)
But hurray! Today I thought to look on ebay, and five male-to-male connectors are winging their way to me. Anybody want one of the spares when they arrive?
