So recently I've been to see Chris Addison, Stewart Lee and Richard Herring, who were largely as you would expect; Addison was a lot of fun, so was Herring (although I think he did a bit of a bait-and-switch with his conclusions to get an uplifting ending), but Lee was amazing. It seems like the less he has to talk about, the better he gets. And he's progressed to actively telling new audience members to go away so he can be obscure. Twenty minutes of politics crossed with a Scooby-Doo movie! A backdrop of bits of carpet! *besotted sigh*.

Also, I went to a two-hander called Withering Looks because a few of people I know were going, and am now a fan of the people that did it, Lip Service- dunno why I hadn't heard of them before, they're just my cup of tea. In this they play a couple of tour guides doing an "interpretation" of the lives of the Bronte sisters and dramatisation of Wuthering Heights ("Weren't there three Bronte sisters, you may ask. You know about all the Arts Council funding cuts? Let's just say... Anne's popped out for a pint of milk.") One of the actors reminded everyone of Miranda Hart, and really the whole thing was a bit like the Reduced Shakepseare Company (with the different levels of persona/characters) and a bit like Joyce Grenfell playing something written by Victoria Wood. Will definitely see any more of their shows that come close enough.

One of the people I was with was all "Ooh, I don't like how amateurish it is" and everyone else was all "... you do realise that's one of the gags, don't you?" I don't know why M. comes to comedy, really, I've been to several excellent gigs with her and she's always come out going "I didn't enjoy that much." Oh, there was one political one that was a bit depressing, she liked that. I wouldn't mind but she lives on my train line, so I'm wanting to talk about the gig and she goes "Well, that was all right, I suppose. Now, let me tell you about how I waited in for a delivery all day yesterday!"
