No wonder my electricity bill was completely wrong if they were reading next door's meter! Furrfu.
"Oh, please set up direct debits so we can wander in to your bank account and take whatever we think you owe us! We won't cock it up or give ourselves interest free loans at your expense at all in any way. It is For Your Own Good. Pleeeeeaaase?"

I set up direct debits because otherwise I would forget to pay the bills. But now they've started sending me "estimated" bills because they can't be arsed to come and read my meter. I can't read my meter either because it's locked in a cupboard outside my front door, so I've no idea if these "estimates" are in any way accurate.

Meh. They're not ripping me off any worse than the rest of the world...

Ah, I forget practically everything else, but not to pay bills (so far). It's the way that everyone I speak to seems to have some happy story ending in "And then they cut off my water and sent the bailiffs in!" or "So after the court case they finally paid back the £50,000 they had overcharged us, but our marriage was destroyed and I'm now on strong medication!" that makes me feel like I want to be able to ring up the gas company and tell them they're fools before my money has gone into their account.
