Went over to Manchester to see Richard Herring's Oh Fuck I'm Forty at the Frog & Bucket. (Had a wander round the city and a drink at Sinclair's Oyster House beforehand- good beer, cheap, nice building, in the city centre, I merely mention it as a public service for my pubgoing readers.) Train back this morning absolutely gorgeous; blue sky, frost on the fields and ice on the canal. You get excellent scenery out of the train windows in these parts.
Mixture much as before in many ways- a show about his horror at turning forty, with much pointing out his own foolishness, inadequacies and desperate clinging to youth, oh, and wish to have a threesome. Very funny, very feelgood (if you like having the utter meaninglessness of life pointed out in a comedy show). Favourite quote, "society- the coquettish whore"- in a routine about paedophobes (and gerontophiles). He seems to have enjoyed it as well, which is nice. I sneakily plugged Go Faster Stripe to E.- we could have hung around to buy one of his DVDs off of Rich afterwards, but it was quite late for a Sunday night already.
I'm not mad keen on venues where you sit round tables and have to crane your neck to see the stage, but it was a nice friendly vibe and comfy chairs, which make up for a lot!)
