Mem.: Making a shopping list is much more helpful if you remember to take it to the shops with you. Applies esp. to an epic many-shop-covering Xmas shopping effort, but also with some force to a provisions-for-the-week job.
Also, a running list is more useful if you remember to cross off the things you've bought. And the shelf groaning under mountains of split peas agrees with me here.
Went to see Tim Minchin; well worth making the effort to go out on a Sunday night. You've (well, I've) got to like someone who both mentions blastocysts in passing in a song and makes an audience member put on a bear suit. Excellent use of a fan for faux-dramatic effect, and praiseworthy nine-minute beat poem about rationality. My favourite song was probably If I Didn't Have You (Somebody Else Would Do)- which I think is really romantic, which may explain something about my history of success in this department- but all of them were good. (Examples.)
