Still enjoying Half-Blood Prince. I'd read one of the Tamora Pierce Circle of Magic books on Saturday, and noticed something I hadn't before. To me Pierce's books have quite a similar, um, narrative pull, or something, to Rowlings'; I really want to zoom through them in one session to find out *what happens*. A different sort of enjoyment from what I get from most fantasy (including other children's/YA), where the world and the characters make me linger more, even on the first read. Maybe JKR and Pierce are taking me back to how I used to read as a teenager? I remember being absolutely breathless reading Dragonsdawn, desperate to get to the bit where they come up with the idea of dragons. Although the fact that I *do* clearly remember that suggests that I normally didn't feel that way, I suppose...
I'm not sure if YA vs adult has anything to do with it, or if it's something to about the style of these particular writers; JKR hasn't written any adult books I could compare, and I'm pretty sure Pierce hasn't either. It sort of seems like there should be something in books for younger readers being shorter and thus more intense, but that could be a false "thus" (especially considering the brick-ness of the later Harry Potters.) Clearly this is something that needs lots of reading of the things I liked as a teenager to test, and I can't get at the books, aargh. I'm fed up with half my stuff being in storage.

Enjoyed Greedy last night. Quite a few sketches the same as last time, but also some new ones- and the repeated ones stood up to it well. And the bonus was I got home in time to watch Have I Got News For You :-P
Normally I quite like going places on my own, but three separate people ("as if normally they came blended, like teas") having originally said they fancied coming along made me a bit more sensitive to it. Still, they missed a good evening, so phooey to 'em. Looking forwards to seeing MirrorMask in company on Weds.
