Linkage

Weekend of much slobbing and DVD watching. Have worked out I can cope with Nathan Barley if I only watch one episode at a time, followed by something nice. This isn't so much dark comedy as depressing comedy. No idea if I'll ever rewatch.

Have started and deleted several versions of fretting about how superficial I'm becoming, and how popular entertainment caters for those who value prettiness of actors over plot, etc; think I've got low blood sugar and should eat lunch.

Have a nice link. The Halfbakery is a bunch of people who put half-baked ideas up for others to vote on; some are actually or nearly practicable, but mostly they're funny. One of their top ten is the simple, yet marvellous idea of the Evil Laugh Activated Hand Dryer.

31 (to date) issues of Plokta are online. This zine makes slightly more sense if you're well enough up on the British fan scene to know, for example, who Dave Langford is; but articles like the consumer testing of Warm Things For Your Lap, from issue 9- comparing a baby, a laptop, a cat and a book- or "An Appraisal of the Utility of a Chocolate Teapot" from issue 23 stand on their own. I particularly like the referee's comments on the experimental design- "Although the authors identify a manufacturer, which might allow other workers to gain access to process information if they wish to repeat the experiment, they do not define the base composition of the chocolate used. At least the cocoa solids percentage should be quoted."
